What happens if you cut earth in half?
As the Earth is methodically sliced in half, its mantle and core would be exposed to the vacuum of space, causing massive earthquakes that would be felt everywhere on the planet. At this stage, almost all of the planet’s human inhabitants — 7.5 billion people — would be without electricity.

Lucka – For a glimpse of what Earth would look like from space, we turned to Earth expert Dr Marian Holness from the University of Cambridge. Marian – Well the Earth is about 6,400 kilometres in radius.
What happens to the Earth during an earthquake?
So when the Earth experiences an earthquake, it rings like a bell and it sends seismic waves all the way through the Earth. And we can pick up those seismic waves using seismometers scattered all the way through the Earth, and we can tell how fast the waves are moving through the Earth and what type they are.
